Who We Are
In 2014, four like-minded individuals took over the monitoring of 25 established bluebird nest boxes on the Bear Trace golf course in Crossville. In 2015, after a presentation by a Tennessee Bluebird Society (TBS) representative to local bluebird enthusiasts, eight founding members established the Cumberland County Bluebird Club (CCBC) as a local chapter of the TBS. The CCBC is committed to the TBS mission of promoting Eastern bluebird and other native cavity-nesting bird conservation.
Today, the CCBC has grown to more than 150 members, over half of whom are active as monitors of 400+ nest boxes on 19 bluebird trails at golf courses, parks, and other public areas across Cumberland County.
In 2023, the CCBC applied for and was granted 501(c)(3) status, and is now formally recognized as the Cumberland County Bluebird Club of Tennessee (CCBCofTN).
What We Do

Promote conservation
Whether it’s visiting an elementary school, manning a booth at a local festival, or inviting a neighbor to add a nest box to their yard, our volunteers are vital to teaching the importance of bluebird conservation.

Build and install nest boxes
There is a constant demand for new nest boxes. Volunteers who enjoy working with their hands have plenty of opportunities to cut, build, and paint wood boxes, assemble metal predator guards, and install the finished products on trails or in backyards.

Monitor nest box trails
We train volunteers to be a monitor on one of the county’s 19 bluebird nest box trails, collecting important data for research and conservation efforts. Individuals can also contribute by reporting data from their own backyard box via a simple phone app.
